A journey To Akagera National Park Rwanda

Three discrete environments designate Akagera National Park with Standard savannah overriding much of the region. An enormous swampy area shared with Tanzania encompasses six lakes with numerous Forested Island. Green Hills delineate the national park flanks while variable vegetation, ranging from short grasses on the summits to wooded savannah. Thirdly the dense thickets of forest form the third environmental component of this National Park for a habitat of over 500 bird species.

Day and Night game drives.

You’re likely to see a number of animals as most of them are making their last hunt before scorching sun rays emerge. Lions and Leopards stand out in this wonderful savannah park while elephants, buffalos, giraffe, zebras, antelopes, bushbucks, Topis, Oribis, water-buck, roan antelope and duiker, klipspringer, impala and world largest antelope will dominate your sightings Night game drives get the best out of the nocturnal animals as they are busiest at this time.

Sunset/Boat cruise

Lake Ihema is your destination for the boat ride as it presents an avenue of reconnoitering aquatic life. While on a boat, lookout for hippos and crocodiles as this lake is famous for its largest hippo concentration in all of East Africa. Remarkable bird species like the Papyrus gonolek, jacanas, herons, sandpipers, malachite kingfisher, the hawk, and the rare shoebill stork and many more will entice you as you get along

Sport fishing

Lake Shakani which is where it all happens. You’ll most likely catch fish species like tilapia and catfish. This experience is interactive while you get to learn fishing methods in Rwanda. While fishing, visitors can enjoy a cold drink while listening to folk songs and folk tales or stories that are told by the local fishermen rich in the culture and History of this nation.

Walk the Line

You’ll maneuver the perimeters of Akagera national park for 7km into the beautiful green hills which are endowed with a picturesque scenery by the demarcations of the national park. This informative 2hr walk will end on a ridge where you’ll glare at the panoramic view of this Savanna Park. The minimum participants for this activity is 3.

 

Birding

Akagera national park presents an enormous checklist of over 525 species, a replica of an effluent biodiversity habitat. With 44 raptor species, papyrus gonolek, shoebill stork and an ample number of palearctic migrants like the lesser kestrel, Great snipe are only a few of the 525 bird species.
