Day 1: Arrival at Kigali international airport.

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you’ll be welcomed by a Silverbirdtours representative that will gladly transfer you to your hotel while acclimatizing you to Africa’s best and cleanest city.

Journey duration: 40 Minutes from Kigali international airport to the hotel.

Day 2: Kigali City tour and transfer to Akagera National Park.

Following your breakfast, you’ll divulge into the mystic of this beautiful land. A ring of hills form the topography of this beautiful city.

  • Do not hesitate to beat the odds as a trip through Nyamirambo will speak volumes regarding the beauty of this city.
  • A journey to the southwestern ridge of the city boasts of picturesque scenery that only gives a glimpse of what Rwanda is made of.
  • Your next stop will be at the genocide memorial museum. Kigali Genocide Museum a site that was established to commemorate people that were massacred in the unspeakable civil war.
  • The people that succumbed to death at the course of this tragic man slaughter were concealed in mass graves and this particular museum is in commemoration at the location of the mass graves.
  • Proceed to campaign against genocide museum where the execution of the strategy to sojourn the genocide started.
  • A team of courageous soldiers that fought to protect the citizens were commemorated by the establishment of this museum.
  • Here you’ll hear about the detailed tactics that were administered to bring peace to the nation.
  • You’ll then transfer to Akagera national Park and check into the lodge and overnight.

Day 3: Morning Game drive and Sunset boat cruise.

Depart from your lodge at 7am to the eastern part of Rwanda with parked breakfast for the national park in time for the game drive.

  • Three discrete environments describe Akagera National Park with Standard savannah dominating much of the region.
  • An enormous swampy area along the border with Tanzania engulfs six lakes with numerous islands, some of which are forested.
  • Low mountains on the flanks of the park with variable vegetation, ranging from short grasses on the summits to wooded savannah and dense thickets of forest form the third environmental component of this National Park.
  • The Morning game drive will enable you to see a number of animals as most of them are making their last hunt before scorching sun rays emerge as the Elephants, Lions, Leopards stand out in this wonderful savannah park.
  • For a habitat of over 480 bird species, elephants, buffalos, giraffe, zebras, leopards, hyenas, lions, antelopes, bushbucks, Topis, Oribis, water-buck, roan antelope and duiker, klipspringer, impala and world largest antelope, there is no better place to be for a game drive.
  • You’ll have lunch and relax as you wait for the sunset boat cruise.

Lake Ihema is your destination for the boat ride as it presents an avenue of reconnoitering aquatic life.

  • The sound of a cool breeze will relieve you of any worries. As the sun rays fade, they appear to be rekindled by the lake as you look out for wildlife.
  • The hippos at this time are out to graze as the heat gradually reduces.
  • While on a boat, lookout for hippos and crocodiles as this lake is famous for its largest hippo concentration in all of East Africa.
  • Remarkable bird species like the Papyrus Gonolek, jacanas, herons, sandpipers, malachite kingfisher, the hawk, and the rare shoebill stork and many more will entice you as you get along.
  • You’ll return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.  Check-in at the lodge.

Day 4: Walk the Line and transfer to Kigali.

Check out of your lodge and head to the starting point of the walk.

  • Your hike starts at 7am after briefing from the park ranger on rules regarding the activity.
  • It’s at that point where you’ll be assigned a guide that will lead you through.
  • You’ll maneuver the perimeters of Akagera national park for 7km into the beautiful green hills which are endowed with a picturesque scenery by the demarcations of the national park.
  • This informative 2hr walk will end on a ridge where you’ll glare at the panoramic view of this Savanna Park.
  • You’ll exit the Park and head for Kigali.
  • Check in to your lodging for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Transfer to Nyungwe via cultural corridor.

Check out of the hotel after breakfast to embark on a journey to Nyungwe forest national park via the cattle corridor.

  • To Nyanza and visit the King’s palace museum which offers a detailed look into the Rwandan monarchical system.it was gifts to Rwanda by Belgium’s King Badouin in the late 1980s and has tremendously grown house one of Africa’s finest ethnographic collections.
  • A total of seven galleries displays historical, ethnographic, artistic and archaeological artifacts accompanied by visual aids, giving visitors a rich insight on culture native to this community.
  • The exhibits lead with geographical and geological displays, and proceed to items used in hunting, agriculture, animal husbandry, pottery, weaving and woodwork.
  • Traditional clothing and architectural methods are also illustrated, as well as the social importance of cattle.
  • Descendants of the royal herd can be seen to this day at the King’s Palace in nearby Nyanza.
  • The final room reveals traditional customs and beliefs, history, culture, poetry and oral tradition and cosmology.

Day 6: Chimpanzee Trekking and canopy walk.

Depart from your lodge at 5am and head for the national park offices for briefing initiated with an early breakfast and your driver guide driving you to the national park offices for a briefing at 4:30 am with packed lunch.

  • You’ll set off for the starting point at 5:00am of the trek where you’ll start the unforgettable experience of tracking chimpanzees at 5:30am.
  • Partaking a predictable 94% of our genetic material, only few would argue that chimps present a far-fetched range of human-like behaviors oscillating from tool handling to conducting war.
  • Nyungwe forest national park has a population of over 500 chimpanzee individuals and 2 troops have been habituated for trekking.
  • You’ll have lunch after trekking chimpanzees and return to the wilderness for an amazing canopy walk. it’s time to levitate.
  • The birds flee at the sound of monkeys as they ploy from branch to branch. All this happens at your watch as you are suspended 70m above the ground over a thick canopy.
  • Whereas the primates trust their palms and mobile branches to thrust them forward over the canopies, you’ll be on a suspended bridge that enables you to view Nyungwe forest and the hills in the backdrop.
  • Upon briefing, you’ll proceed for a canopy walk through the constructed 160m of length and 70m in elevation canopy pathway.
  • You’ll return to your lodge after the canopy walk for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Waterfall hike and transfer to Volcanoes.

Start the day after breakfast and proceed to the briefing point that will prepare you for this hike.

  • The water roars as you get to the proximity of its natural fountain. As the water washes over the rocks, it plunges 25m and squelches to the banks of the river feeding water tropic flowers that stand tall and sparkle in the wild.
  • Listen to the language that nature speaks as you’ll be in kindred with primates that agree with the beauty in the vicinity around you.
  • There isn’t a better way to escape the city than to be in the company of an undisturbed ecosystem.
  • This affair with the wild will be too good to last forever as the day’s activities have only just begun.

You’ll have lunch after the hike and proceed to Musanze to prepare for mountain gorilla trekking.

Day 8: Gorilla trekking and transfer to Gisenyi.

Upon briefing, you’ll commence the trek with a guide in the forest in pursuit of the Mountain Gorillas.

  • You will trek through the forest, slashing at the undergrowth, parting thick creepers, to track gorillas. The time taken to track the Gorillas is unpredictable as it depends on their movements, where they find food and shelter.
  • However, it can take three quarters of the day and 90% chances of viewing them.
  • Upon reaching the Gorillas, you will have one hour with them and this will enable you to sit down and watch them as they interact with each other, communicate and you are also free to take photographs and Videos.
  • Upon accomplishing this memorable experience, you’ll have lunch and return to the lodge for relaxation as you meditate upon the glamor of being in company with mountain Gorillas.

Journey time: 1hour 30 minutes from the lodge to Gisenyi

Day 9: Kayaking or Canoeing. 

The sun rays emerge from the hills as the birds sing, king fishers strive to get their first catch, a cool breeze streams over you and a string of green hills engulf lake kivu.

  • This is only preparing you for the day as it’s time to get intimate with the lake.
  • You’ll witness the peace and tranquility of this majestic lake not only at a distance but also floating on it.
  • Start this day after breakfast as the marine guides will speak to you to accustom you to marine life. You’ll get into the boat that will sail from the shore and you’ll begin to reconnoiter lake Kivu.
  • The sight of the native fishing boats will amuse you as their fishing methods are native to the region and appear to be inherent as it’s the economic activity of this region while the residents by the lake shores cheer you on.
  • You’ll proceed to the Hot spring. The hot spring is formed when rainwater seeps below Earth’s surface as groundwater, until hitting solid molten rock and collecting in aquifers.
  • Magma heats this water, which then rises back up to the surface through vents in the earth’s crust as pressured by the heat forming a hot spring or geyser.

Return to the lake shore after the adventurous half of the day for lunch and enjoy the rest of the afternoon to explore sections of the Kivu area with an option for an evening Hike to mt. Ruvabu for an amazing hike that unveils to you the beauty around lake Kivu. You get sights return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 10: Airport transfer.

After your breakfast you will relax at your lodge and later be transferred to Kigali for departure with a stopover at Caplaki for crafts shopping.
