Day 1: Pick up form Kigali & drive to Volcanoes NP. Start Hiking
Set off from Kigali at 4:30am, drive 3hrs to Volcanoes national park headquarters for registration and briefing about the hike that starts at 7:00 AM.
Thereafter begin 6-8 hour hike on the foothill of the volcano and ascend through the narrow ridges to the summit offering you a thrill and magical vistas of other ranges of the Virunga ranges and tantalizing peaks of the Sabinyo’s top ridge.
The hike also gives you sightings of the indigenous bird species, mammals like elephants, buffaloes, bushbucks and golden monkeys
At the top summit, you will have picturesque views of the countryside, oldest and gigantesque rocks covered with unique stunning flora
Later descend to the bottom of the volcano and drive back to hotel
What to Pack for Mount Sabinyo Hiking?
Clothing:
- Moisture-wicking base layer: Helps regulate body temperature by wicking away sweat.
- Insulating mid-layer: Provides warmth.
- Waterproof outer layer: Protects against rain and wind.
- Hiking pants: Long trousers are recommended to protect your legs from scratches and insects.
- Long-sleeved shirt: Provides sun and insect protection.
- Hiking boots: Ensure they are sturdy, waterproof, and broken-in to prevent blisters.
- Warm hat and gloves: Essential for higher altitudes and colder temperatures.
- Socks: Pack several pairs of moisture-wicking socks to prevent blisters.
- Sunglasses: Protect your eyes from the sun’s glare.
- Sunscreen: Apply liberally to exposed skin.
- Insect repellent: Essential for protection against insects.
Gear:
- Backpack: Choose a comfortable backpack with adjustable straps and multiple compartments.

- Camera: Capture the stunning views.
- Binoculars: For wildlife viewing.
- Porter: Consider hiring a porter to carry your backpack, especially if you have a lot of gear or are not used to carrying heavy loads.
Other considerations:
- Altitude: Mount Sabinyo is at a high altitude, so acclimate properly to avoid altitude sickness.
- Weather: Be prepared for changing weather conditions. The weather on the mountain can be unpredictable.
